The icons in the status bar at the top of the screen give information about iPhone:
and receive calls. The more bars, the stronger the signal. If there’s nosignal, the bars are replaced with “No service.”

LTE Shows that your carrier’s LTE network is available, and iPhone canconnect to the Internet over that network. (iPhone 5. Not available inall areas.)
4G UMTS Shows that your carrier’s 4G UMTS (GSM) network is available, andiPhone can connect to the Internet over that network. (iPhone 4S orlater. Not available in all areas.)
3G UMTS/EV-DO Shows that your carrier’s 3G UMTS (GSM) or EV-DO (CDMA) networkis available, and iPhone can connect to the Internet over thatnetwork.
E EDGE Shows that your carrier’s EDGE (GSM) network is available, andiPhone can connect to the Internet over that network
VPN Shows that you’re connected to a network using VPN.
Gray icon: Bluetooth is on and paired with a device, but the device is out of range or turned off.No icon: Bluetooth is not paired with a device.
Accessories and wireless performance: The use of certain accessories with iPhone may affect wireless performance. Not all iPod accessories are fully compatible with iPhone. Turning on airplane mode on iPhone may eliminate audio interference between iPhone and an accessory. While airplane mode is on, you cannot make or receive calls or use features that require wireless communication. Reorienting or relocating iPhone and the connected accessory may improve wireless performance.
